The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Affusion Skin Care wants to stress prevention to our customers. Denise feels that there are three basic areas of prevention.

First, what we eat and drink affects our health. Stay away from all artificial sweeteners!! Artificial sweeteners have been linked to all kinds of diseases: from tumors to symptoms of multiple sclerosis. We don’t know if these links are true, but why gamble with your life!? Sugar lowers the immune system. Honey maple syrup, and rice syrup (it tastes like caramel!) are great sweeteners, but hard to use in a baking recipe. The Bread Beckers (www.BreadBeckers.com) sells a wonderful product called Sucanat and Sucanat with Honey that is a wonderful white sugar alternative. Sucanat is dried cane juice. Sucanat with honey is dried cane juice and honey. These are wonderful, because they substitute so well in sweet tea and baking. If you are trying to avoid sugar’s calories, try stevia. It comes in a liquid or powder form. Stevia is an herb and has a taste that is very agreeable to people who are used to artificial sweeteners. You can find it at Whole Foods markets or health food stores. Add it to lemon water for a quick lemonade. Only a few drops are needed, so it’s easy to carry around in your purse for a healthy restaurant substitute.

Next, stay away from processed foods! I would love to introduce you to a wonderful new bakery called The Real Bread Company (www.RealBreadCompany.com). They make wonderful bread, muffins, and cookies that are extremely delicious and are made only with the most natural, wholesome ingredients. They mill the grain just before baking for the most nutrients! Their cookies are decadent. Remember this for the holidays coming up!

Clean out your inside!!! Drinking water is very important! Add fresh squeezed organic lemon to your water to help flush your system. Twice a year consider really cleaning your kidneys, liver, and colon! Nature’s Secret makes a wonderful herbal supplement that will really help, called Multi-Fiber and Multi-Herb. Directions are in the package. Again, Whole Foods and most health food stores sell this great product. If you are really concerned about cleaning your body, look into The Master Cleanse. It’s a book that walks you through a 10 day cleanse, drinking only a special lemonade. The recipe is in the book. One family friend did this cleanse and lost 40 pounds of toxins! I have a family member that does this annually and swears by it. I will admit, I haven’t had the gumption to do this yet!

Last, but not least, what you put on your skin is absorbed into your body! Stay away from synthetics, parabens and phthalates. Parabens have already been banned in Japan and Sweden. There are also other synthetic ingredients that are dangerous, like talc, petroleum products, animal-based oils, synthetic fragrances and artificial coloring.

Affusion is fragranced with essential oils. Our skin care is vegan, not tested on animals, and have no artificial color. It is hypo-allergenic and great for all skin types. Europe is trying to implement new guidelines that will make cosmetics cleaner. Affusion products already surpass the new European Guidelines. Please don’t wait for government to protect you!
